welcome to science!πŸ§¬πŸŒ πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬

Hi, my name is Tatum Jennings and I teach 6th grade science and math!

I graduated from Illinois State University with a B.S. in Special Education focusing on Deaf Education. I was an intern at TSD before graduating and have been at TSD in this position since then. A few random facts about me: I love red pandas, I don't like centipedes, and growing up my mom ran a daycare business! This is ultimately why I decided to become a teacher, since working with children has always come as second nature to me. I've really found my calling in this role now as I am also very passionate about nature and educating youth about science!

My favorite part about teaching science is doing experiments and seeing the ideas my students come up with! My goal as a teacher is to empower my students and create a space for them to feel safe, seen, creative, and challenged!

I have two class animals. One is a wood turtle named Luna (sign name MOON with an "L" handshape), who loves people and strawberries! The other is a crested gecko named Mars (sign name SWEET with an "M" handshape on your cheek) whose days typically consist of hanging upside down in his habitat and falling asleep in students' hoodies. 🐢🦎
