Hello!

Hi everyone! I’m Christine Markel, and I grew up in sunny San Diego, California. I’ve always loved being near the water—I enjoy surfing when I can and love swimming in the lakes and rivers around Texas. When I’m not in the water, you’ll probably find me snowboarding in the mountains. Being active and outdoors is a big part of who I am!

Sports have always been a huge part of my life. Growing up, I played lacrosse, soccer, and water polo, and I also played soccer in college. Those experiences taught me the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and having fun–values I bring into PE every day.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Recreation and a master’s degree in Deaf Education, and I’m currently pursuing my teaching certification. Combining my love for sports and movement with teaching is one of my favorite parts of the job.

Outside of school, I’m a proud mom to two amazing children—Oceana and Storm—and our protective Doberman, Kali, who’s always ready for an adventure, whether that’s swimming, summiting mountains, or a game of fetch. My husband and I love spending time together as a family, staying active, and creating lasting memories.

My goal at TSD is to create a fun, inclusive, and empowering space where every student feels encouraged to move, grow, and thrive.
