Teacher Information

Hi! My name is Abby Long.  I recently moved to Texas from Chicago, Illinois!  This has been a drastic change, especially in weather, but I am looking forward to experiencing my first warm winter here in Texas.  I am originally from St. Louis, Missouri.  I graduated from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois with my B.S. degree in Deaf Education in 1997.  In 2007, I graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) with my Reading Specialist M. Ed. degree.

I have been teaching Deaf and Hard of Hearing students for the past 24 years in Chicago Public Schools (CPS) in English as well as other subjects.  With my high school students in Chicago, I always enjoy seeing and celebrating their growth and improvement in many areas of their lives, but especially in reading and writing skills.

At TSD, I will be teaching 9th grade ELAR and will continue to developing students' reading and writing skills.  I look forward to helping them become readers and writers as well as supporting their understanding of the world through discussion of current events and making connections to other subjects.
