Larry Smith

Great to have you back in school.
Hello, I’m Lawrence K. Smith (Larry), a proud alumnus of the Texas School for the Deaf (TSD). My experience growing up at TSD inspired me to become an educator and coach, and I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community that helped shape my life.
I am beginning my 33rd season at TSD and my 24th year teaching Social Studies at TSD High School. Over the years, I have taught U.S. Government, Economics, U.S. History, African American Studies, Dual Credit Personal Financial Literacy, and Deaf Studies.
My educational journey includes an A.A.S. in Industrial Drafting from NTID, a B.A. in History from Gallaudet University, and a Master’s degree in Deaf Education and Deaf Studies from Lamar University. Athletics has also been an important part of my journey, from competing on the RIT Track & Field team and the Gallaudet Bison football team to currently serving as Head Coach of TSD’s Girls’ and Boys’ Track & Field teams.
What means the most to me is seeing former students succeed in life. As a teacher and coach, I hope to inspire students to believe in themselves, discover their potential, and confidently pursue their goals.
For me, teaching at TSD is more than a career—it is an opportunity to pay it forward.
Curious about Larry Smith's beyond the working world!
