Seven Areas of ACCESS
Students will focus on developing Independent Living Skills in 7 different areas:
- Household management
- Time Management
- Money Management
- Self-Care
- Technology
- Social/Emotions
- Personal/Community
Household Management
Students will understand safety tips in maintaining households. Also, students will develop menu planning skills, food shopping, and cooking techniques. Students will learn how to read directions and use measurement. In addition, good housekeeping is to maintain clealiness for our health and the environment. Students will assume responsibilities in keeping all items in proper places and understand the use of cleaning chemicals.
Time Management
Maintaining your daily schedule, making an appointment, multitasking.
Money Management
Budgeting, keeping track of spending, creating a spending plan, paying your bills on time, keeping credit card balances low, start saving, and finding support.
Self Care
Taking the time to do things that help students live well and improve both their physical health and mental health. This can help them to learn how to manage stress and lower risks of illness.
Technology
Students will learn how to use technology appropriately such as social media, electronic devices, and software. Also, to enhance self-sufficiency.
Social/Emotions
Social/emotions are essential for connecting with others. Learn how to manage their emotions, build healthy relationships, and feel empathy. Students will understand how to get along with roommates, peers, and friends, as well as learn how to resolve conflicts using Restorative Practices (RP).
Personal/Community
Students will learn how to find resources in the community. Staff will provide workshops on different topics including the police department, fire department, and other deaf services. Also, students will learn how to contact appropriate people in case of an emergency.
