NWEA MAP- FALL Testing

Why MAP Testing Matters

This week, middle school students will be setting personal goals to help guide their learning. Next week, we’ll take the NWEA MAP test, which helps us see how much you’ve learned and how you’re growing.

Why is MAP important?

  • It’s about YOU. MAP shows your teachers your strengths and where you may need more support.

  • It helps set goals. Your scores help you and your teachers make goals that keep you moving forward.

  • It measures growth. Every test shows progress, even small steps. Growth is success!

  • It connects to the state. As part of our agreement (MOU) with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), MAP helps make sure you’re on track and receiving the best support possible.

What to Expect

  • This week: Goal-setting activities in class.

  • Next week: MAP testing during school. Take your time, do your best, and remember this is about growth, not perfection.

How to Prepare for MAP Testing

We want every student to feel ready to do their best. Here’s how you can prepare:

Students

  • 💤 Get a good night’s sleep before testing days.

  • 🍎 Eat breakfast so you have energy.

  • ⏰ Arrive to school on time and bring a positive attitude.

  • 💧 Bring a water bottle to stay refreshed.

  • 🧘‍♂️ Take deep breaths and pace yourself — it’s not a race.

Parents & Families

  • Encourage your child to go to bed early.

  • Make sure they have a healthy breakfast before school.

  • Remind them that this test is about growth, not grades — just try their best!

Dorm Staff

  • Support students with quiet study and relaxation time the night before.

  • Remind them to charge devices (if testing is on iPads/laptops).

  • Help create a calm, encouraging atmosphere so students feel confident.

👉 With everyone working together — students, families, teachers, and dorm staff — we can make MAP testing a positive experience that shows all the amazing growth happening at TSD!
