STAAR testing for all 6th–8th grade students will begin next week and plays an important role in measuring student learning and growth. Please help your child do their best by ensuring they get plenty of rest, eat a healthy breakfast, and stay encouraged to put forth strong effort each day.

Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4–8) is a wonderful opportunity to recognize the dedication and hard work our teachers bring each day. Booster Club officer positions for the 2026–2027 school year are now open, and all roles are available for interested volunteers. Families are encouraged to review the responsibilities, email Gustavo Diaz by March 28 to express interest, and attend the April 1 general meeting to vote on new officers.

On March 12, our 6th grade students celebrated Women’s Awareness Day with a cross-curricular program exploring the achievements of women in STEM, literature, and history through hands-on activities, reading, and creative projects. The day concluded with a Zoom panel featuring five inspiring Deaf women who shared their experiences and advice, leaving students with powerful insights about perseverance, leadership, and representation.

TSD Performing Arts presents the High School Spring 2026 production of Good Night, Ladies! Directed by Russell Harvard and Preston Ponder, the show runs April 9–11 with tickets available at the door.

Middle school students Estrella and Zaylee represented Texas School for the Deaf in the Gallaudet Youth Debate Bowl semifinals, where Zaylee advanced to the national championships in Washington, D.C., becoming the first TSD middle school student to reach this stage. 🎉

Our Rangers Robotics team represented our school with pride at the 2026 Texas Region 4 Middle School VEX IQ State Championship, finishing an impressive 22nd place overall! 🎉 Competing against programs from across the region — many from schools with over 1,000 middle school students — our team demonstrated determination, collaboration, and strong problem-solving skills.

Our science class proudly hosted Superintendent Peter Bailey, and the students took full charge—teaching him a mini-lesson on soil layers and leading a fun “dirt cup” activity.

Our VEX V5 Robotics teams delivered an impressive performance this season, with Region IV serving 30+ teams and only 21 advancing to the State Championship. Two of our three teams—Robots Gone Wild 19991B and GearWarriors 19991A—advanced to the state quarterfinals, with 19991B finishing 3rd overall in qualification matches. GearWarriors 19991A also earned the prestigious Judges Award for their perseverance and professionalism after battling back from a challenging start. We are incredibly proud of their growth, resilience, and competitive spirit as they now prepare for the Deaf National Tournament!

National Bound! Congratulations to the TSD Math Hackers team for winning the RIT Southeast Regional Mathcounts Competition! Our talented middle school mathematicians competed against other schools in the region and emerged victorious, showcasing exceptional problem-solving skills, teamwork, and dedication. Their success at the regional level advances them toward the national competition at RIT, where they will represent TSD and continue their pursuit of excellence in math. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and wish them the best of luck as they take the next step in the Mathcounts journey!

Families who are planning for their child’s college future are encouraged to learn about the Certificate of Deafness Tuition Waiver Program (CODTW) through Texas Health and Human Services. This program provides eligible students who are deaf, deafblind, or hard of hearing with a waiver for tuition and tuition-based fees at Texas state-supported colleges and universities. An informational session will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 11:00 AM–12:00 PM (CST), presented in ASL and spoken English with captions and interpretation provided. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend to better understand eligibility requirements and how to plan ahead for post-secondary education.
