Internet Safety

Dear MS Families!

Thank you to everyone who attended our recent internet safety workshop! We had an eye-opening and informative presentation from Mr. Brian, who shared valuable insights on protecting children from online dangers.

One powerful example he gave was from a criminal case he worked on, before working at TSD, where he created a fake profile of a 10-year-old girl. Within just 15 minutes, he received 15 direct messages, five of which were from men over the age of 25. In another case, he shared how a groomer spent two years building trust with a child to exploit them.

Mr. Brian stressed the importance of ongoing conversations between parents and children about the risks of being online. He strongly advised against allowing children to use platforms with live chat features, as live chat features can create easy access points for predators.
For those who could not attend, or if you would like to review the information, I have attached the PowerPoint presentation from the workshop. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. There are no such things as silly questions!

If you did attend, we would appreciate it if you could take a moment to fill out a brief, 6-question survey to help us improve future workshops for you. Please state in the last question that you are a middle school parent.

The PPT that was reviewed is included.

Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our children safe!
Warm Regards,
