Gallaudet Youth Debate Bowl News!

On March 2, middle school students Estrella and Zaylee competed in the Gallaudet Youth Debate Bowl semifinals, debating β€œPhone-Free Schools Should Be Mandated.” Both students were selected from a record number of submissions, where only four advanced to the semifinals. This was a significant achievement for TSD!

Zaylee argued the affirmative side, and Estrella argued the negative in an incredibly close and exciting match. Both students demonstrated impressive research, critical thinking, and oratory skills. The judges were especially impressed by their sportsmanship between rounds. Estrella and Zaylee truly showed TSD Ranger spirit in the semifinals.

We are thrilled to announce that Zaylee will advance to the Gallaudet Youth Debate Bowl Championships on April 22–23, 2026, where she will compete in person in Washington, D.C., arguing the affirmative side. This makes her the first middle school student from Texas School for the Deaf to reach the national championships.

Congratulations to both Estrella and Zaylee for their hard work, dedication, and exemplary representation of TSD. We wish Zaylee the very best as she competes at the national level!
