Grants for Families Through the Parent-Directed Special Education Services Program

The Parent Directed Special Education Services (PDSES) program requires that all funds be used strictly for the direct educational benefit of the eligible student, meaning purchases must help the student access or engage with their curriculum. Families may buy one computer and one tablet per student, but additional devices are not allowed. Certain items are prohibited, including household goods, cleaning supplies, home security devices, smart speakers, general furniture (except learning-related items like desks and chairs), food, and medical supplies. Some approved items also have spending limits, such as headphones, printers, and desks, and requests may be denied if quantities are excessive. If a purchase is unusual or exceeds price limits, families must provide a clear justification explaining how the item supports the student’s educational goals.
