Good afternoon, Seniors & Families (bcc'd),
We have exciting FAFSA news! Federal Student Aid announced yesterday afternoon that the 2027 2028 FAFSA application has officially opened early and is now available to complete! The U.S. Department of Education opened the FAFSA on September 23, ahead of its required October 1 launch date. U.S. Department of Education
The 2027–2028 FAFSA is the application our current seniors will complete to apply for financial aid for colleges/universities, or career/trade schools beginning in Fall 2027. The FAFSA helps determine eligibility for financial aid, including federal grants, work-study, and student loans, as well as other aid that may be available through colleges and states.
We know the FAFSA process can feel overwhelming, especially if this is your first time completing it! The Career & Transition Team will be hosting TWO FAFSA Student-Parent Workshops where we will walk families through the process and provide support while you complete the application.

During the workshop, we will provide a brief overview of the FAFSA and financial aid process, followed by a step-by-step walkthrough so that students and families can work on completing and submitting their FAFSA during the workshop.
Before You Attend
If you plan to attend one of our workshops, please make sure that both the senior AND a parent/guardian attend together. Families should also bring their own laptop and the required information/documents needed to complete the FAFSA.
You do not have to wait for a workshop to get started! Families who feel comfortable completing the FAFSA independently can begin now through the official Federal Student Aid website:
Complete the 2027–2028 FAFSA at StudentAid.gov
We strongly encourage all seniors who may attend college or career/trade school next year to complete the FAFSA, even if your family is unsure whether you will qualify for financial aid. Completing the FAFSA allows colleges to determine what types of financial aid may be available to you. Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) also requires this to offer support.
We hope these workshops will make the FAFSA process a little easier and give families an opportunity to complete it with support available along the way. We look forward to working with our seniors and families as you take this next step in planning for life after TSD!
