Interview with Dr. Stern
Dr. Stern came to TSD to talk about the upcoming election, why it is important to engage each other in civil conversations, why debates on the issues are essential, and how these conversations should move us to vote. Dr. Stern was able to engage our students in a mock debate with practice topics that students from the audience were able to "champion" and this allowed us to see how the power of our words could influence an outcome.
Dr. Stern also shared information about SignVote, a nonpartisan effort to ensure access to U.S. elections in American Sign Language and promote voter engagement excellence in Deaf America.
SignVote defines ‘voter engagement’ as the dynamic fusion of motivation, education, and participation. SignVote is a program under the Center for Democracy in Deaf America.
