Essential of ASL 1 (Period 5th)
Course Description
 This is ASL 1 course. Students will learn the depth of the linguistic, culture, history and arts.  This course includes the five C's: Cultures, Comparisons, Communities, Communications and Connections.
Learning Outcomes
Students will learn:
Communication:   
- ASL Linguistic in grammars
 - Semantics
 - Basic Non Manual Markers
 - Types of speeches: argumentative, persuasive, informative, instructional and entertaining.
 
Cultures:  
- ASL Poetry and A - Z storytelling
 - Hearing culture vs Deaf culture
 - Etiquette in Deaf and Hearing cultures
 - Common Deaf jokes & ASL jokes
 - That Deaf Guy comics
 
Communities:
- Deaf community's current events (DTV, IDeafnews, The Daily Moth, etc)
 - Newsletters from Deaf community
 - Social media from Deaf community
 - History of Deaf Education
 
Comparisons:
- To learn about Hearing cultures to find the difference and similar to Deaf culture in United States of America.
 - Comparing the communication modes to recognize the differences in between ASL and Total Communication/PSE.
 
Connections:  
- Storytelling that applies to the learner's knowledge and experience in Deaf community & culture.
 - Relevant to other courses (ie: History, Art, Drama, and Literature)
