Dear TSD Community,
Following our joint statement with New Mexico School for the Deaf regarding the Homecoming football game on Saturday, October 4, I want to share what steps we are taking internally at Texas School for the Deaf.
We have received multiple videos and firsthand reports of what took place. While we conduct a full and fair investigation, both our Athletic Director and Head Football Coach have been placed on administrative leave. This decision allows us to review all facts objectively and ensure accountability.
We are also enforcing our internal policies regarding conduct on school property for individuals involved in the on-field altercation.
Following Friday night’s incident, TSD has taken immediate actions:
- Placed our Athletic Director and Head Football Coach on administrative leave to allow a full and fair investigation.
- Banned the individual involved in the on-field altercation from campus under our policy.
- Prohibited parents of student-athletes temporarily from working at games where their own children play.
- Scheduled meetings with all players and coaches to reinforce expectations and roles.
- Supported NMSD’s decision to call off the game and their commitment to sportsmanship and safety.
- Cancelled our football game against Oklahoma School for the Deaf on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
We are taking these actions seriously to uphold accountability, integrity, and respect within our athletic programs. In addition, we are now taking the following steps to prevent future incidents and promote a culture of respect:
- Reviewing all athletic event protocols to ensure clear expectations and consistent enforcement.
- Reinforcing sportsmanship and conflict management training for all athletic staff and volunteers.
- Partnering with Student Life and Student Support Services to support any students who were affected by this incident.
Our goal is to use this as a learning opportunity to reaffirm who we are as a community built on respect, integrity, and unity. I am confident that, together, we will move forward stronger and better than before.
Thank you for your continued support of our students, athletes, and programs.
TSDly yours,
Peter L. Bailey, Superintendent
Texas School for the Deaf
