Hello! Here with this month’s PB’s Corner. I have some updates I’d like to share but before I do, I would like to recognize 3 organizations: TSD Foundations, TSD Booster Club, and TSD PTSO. These 3 non-profit organizations typically receive donations for TSD and we have no idea on who provides those donations but receive those funds through the organizations. Those donations cannot be used for staff salaries or stipends; they are to only be used for activities. With that being said that is how we are able to host events such as the most recent one Ranger Nation Festival which was a huge event and tied to celebrating our 75th Homecoming.
That weekend also included the Spike Out Tournament and Cross-Country Tournament that brought in many other schools to celebrate with us. We had over 1500 people in attendance that evening, Thursday night before Homecoming. It was really nice to specifically have our students with their families and staff with their families get together as we don’t have that opportunity often. That evening was truly a night to celebrate and have fun, with great music, performances, and a drone show. Now will we do this again next year? I don’t know, it’ll depend on funds that are donated so we will see.
This leads me to our Homecoming festivities. It was a wonderful day with various venders here that day. There is a specific company, Design Austin, that has been working with us. They received a grant from the City of Austin to provide funds for life size stand-alone hand shapes of “ATX”. We negotiated and they agreed with the hand shapes of TSD and the Ranger hand sign, which made its debut at Homecoming Festivities on the mall where our vendors were stationed. It’s beautiful and will now be moved to the front of campus on SOCO (South Congress Ave.), by our gates. It will not be displayed outside our gates but inside our campus behind the gates to be viewed and at night it lights up as well. If you ever have the opportunity, go by and check it out.
That day was also a special day for our Alumni. They come annually for their meeting but this year included their Hall of Fame and the annual 50th class reunion for that year. Traditionally TSD has handed out Golden Certificate Diplomas. This year is the first year, and will continue this going forward, where we have given out a solid Medal to wear. Those of you that will celebrate your 50th class reunion next year come out to receive yours to wear all day with pride. Those were some events but have a couple more to share. Our PTSO did a great job on hosting our most recent Trunk or Treat where you decorate your car trunk or golf carts and hand out candy or activities for the kids. Every year they do an amazing job and we really enjoy it.
Now for an update that you may or may not be aware of, a previous Legislative Session approved and TSD received funding to construct new facilities for our ACCESS Program, those students from the ages 18-22. Now to qualify you must have graduated from TSD or another High School to enter the program and there is an application process. The program’s focus is employment and independent living skills. To address independent living skills new dorms will be constructed that will be “apartment style” with 16 units housing 4 per unit with a max of 64 individuals being housed. Designing, planning and construction is underway with a target opening date of Fall of 2028. If you have the opportunity to look at our website you can see updates from time to time and see what it will look like. I’m excited to see that happening. We will have more legislative funding for construction and upgrades to our facilities to ensure TSD sustains the years to come. TSD was established in 1856 so some of our buildings would not prolong if left without upkeep and renovations. That’s it for this month. There will be more to come. So long!

¡Hola! Aquí están las noticias del Rincón de PB de este mes. Tengo algunas novedades que me gustaría compartir, pero antes de hacerlo, me gustaría reconocer a tres organizaciones: TSD Foundations, TSD Booster Club y TSD PTSO. Estas tres organizaciones sin fines de lucro suelen recibir donaciones para TSD y no tenemos idea de quién las proporciona, pero recibimos esos fondos a través de las organizaciones. Ese fin de semana también se celebraron el Torneo Spike Out y el Torneo de Campo Traviesa, que atrajeron a muchas otras escuelas para celebrar con nosotros. La noche del jueves, antes del Homecoming, contamos con la asistencia de más de 1500 personas. Fue muy agradable que nuestros estudiantes y sus familias, así como el personal y sus familias, pudieran reunirse, ya que no solemos tener esa oportunidad a menudo. Esa noche fue realmente una noche para celebrar y divertirse, con buena música, actuaciones y un espectáculo de drones. ¿Volveremos a hacerlo el año que viene? Esto me lleva a nuestras festividades de Homecoming. Fue un día maravilloso con varios vendedores presentes. Hay una empresa específica, Design Austin, que ha estado trabajando con nosotros. Recibieron una subvención de la ciudad de Austin para financiar figuras de manos independientes a tamaño real con las letras «ATX». Negociamos y aceptaron las formas de manos de TSD y la seña de mano de los Rangers, que hicieron su debut en las festividades de Homecoming en la calle peatonal donde se encontraban nuestros vendedores. Es precioso y ahora se trasladará a la entrada del plantel, en SOCO (Avenida South Congress), junto a nuestra entrada. Ese día también fue especial para nuestros exalumnos. Vienen cada año para su reunión, pero este año se celebró además la ceremonia del Salón de la Fama y la reunión anual del 50º aniversario de la promoción de ese año. Tradicionalmente, TSD ha entregado diplomas de oro. Este año es el primero, y seguirá siéndolo en adelante, en el que hemos entregado una medalla para lucir. Aquellos de ustedes que vayan a celebrar su 50º aniversario de graduación el año que viene, vengan a recoger la suya para lucirla con orgullo durante todo el día. Esos fueron algunos de los eventos, pero hay más que compartir. Nuestra PTSO hizo un gran trabajo organizando nuestro último Trunk or Treat, en el que se decoran las cajuelas de los coches o los carritos de golf y se reparten dulces o se realizan actividades para los niños. Cada año hacen un trabajo increíble y lo disfrutamos mucho.
Ahora, una actualización que tal vez estén al tanto o no: en una sesión legislativa reciente se aprobó y TSD recibió fondos para construir nuevas instalaciones para nuestro programa ACCESS, para estudiantes de entre 18 y 22 años. Para poder participar en el programa, es necesario haberse graduado de TSD o de otra escuela preparatoria, y hay que seguir un proceso de solicitud. El programa se enfoca en el empleo y las habilidades para la vida independiente. Para abordar las habilidades de vida independiente, se construirán nuevos dormitorios que serán de “estilo departamento” con 16 unidades que albergarán a 4 personas por unidad, con un máximo de 64 personas hospedadas. El diseño, la planificación y la construcción están en marcha, con una fecha de apertura prevista para el otoño de 2028.
