On The Road - (OTR) - Summer Camps and Programs

We are excited to bring our popular Discovery Retreat and statewide resources to your community. This one-day event will offer three different tracks for participants to choose from.

Student Track (6th-12th Grade):

Students will take part in a hands-on STEM day filled with fun and interactive activities. These activities help students learn new skills and gain real-world experience.

Parent Track:

Parents will attend presentations and have time to ask questions about language development, school experiences, and the transition from high school to adulthood for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Local experts will also share helpful resources to support families and students.

Deaf Education Professional Track:

Deaf education professionals are invited to join a special session to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Please note that this track includes a small registration fee.

Spring 2025 OTR DR - Houston

Family Services (FSAS) hosted its first On the Road – Discovery Retreat at Cypress Ridge High School in Houston, Texas. This one-day event welcomed deaf and hard-of-hearing students in grades 6–12 from Cypress Ridge and Katy ISD. Parents who attended with their children also took part in a mini-workshop focused on support and planning.

Students enjoyed a full day of hands-on STEAM activities. These included learning about binary code, testing pH levels, and working together on a spaghetti-and-marshmallow tower challenge. Each activity encouraged teamwork, creative thinking, and problem-solving.

Parents spent the day learning and talking about important topics such as IEP and graduation planning, finding jobs during high school and after graduation, college preparation and applications, and life transitions. Families gained helpful resources and had time to connect and share experiences with one another. We look forward to bringing this event to more locations across Texas.
