9-12 Secondary Program

Welcome to Texas School for the Deaf's 9-12 Secondary Program!

OUR SECONDARY PROGRAM

Texas School for the Deaf’s secondary program (9th - 12th grade) offers High School (HS) academic and Career & Technical Education (CTE) courses that follow the state of Texas’ graduation requirements.

In grades 9 and 10, students take the majority of their core graduation-required courses along with a program of study foundational courses and some electives. Foundational courses prepare students for which content area they want to commit to when they go into one of our four Academies in 11th grade. Once a student enters the 11th grade, they will be a part of the academy based on their chosen Program of Study.

ACADEMIES

Beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year, TSD has adopted a more tailored approach to learning, in an effort to better prepare our students for their future after graduation. Transition planning is at the forefront of ensuring students are prepared & our academy-based learning communities are designed with our students in mind. We have identified four academies: Trades, Humanities, Digital Media & STEM. Each academy has at least one lead teacher and a team of teachers with expertise in the specific programs of study under their academy. This structure is designed to foster a cohesive team effort in supporting our students’ growth in gaining transferable skills & industry-based experience for the workforce and/or post-secondary education. Detailed information about each academy can be found under the Career & Transition Services sidebar tab.
