Ms. Mizzy Roper

Welcome to My Math Class!

My name is Margaret Roper, but please feel free to call me Mizzy—that’s the name my family and friends have always used, and it’s how I like to be known in the classroom, too. I’m so excited to be teaching Algebra, Geometry, and Math Models this year! I truly believe that math can be fun, meaningful, and even adventurous—and that’s exactly what I hope this school year will be for all of us.

My goal is to help you grow in your understanding of math and to show how Algebra, Geometry, and Math Models connect to the real world around us. Whether we’re solving equations or exploring patterns, we’ll be doing it together—with curiosity, teamwork, and lots of support.

A little about me:
I was born and raised in Virginia and graduated from Gallaudet University with a B.S. in Therapeutic Recreation. I also hold certifications in Special Education and Math. I’m currently continuing my education in Deaf Education because learning never stops—even for teachers!

Before moving to Austin, I worked for five years as the Recreation Director at the SouthWest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf in Big Spring, Texas. I moved to Austin 19 years ago so my children could attend the Texas School for the Deaf (TSD). Although I come from a hearing family, I have a Deaf brother and am a proud mom to three Deaf children—all of whom graduated from TSD.

This is my 18th year teaching at TSD and my sixth year teaching in the TSD high school. I also spent two years as a long-term substitute teacher in the Applied Program. Every student I’ve taught has helped me grow as a teacher, and I can’t wait to begin this journey with you.

Please know that I’m here to support you every step of the way. If you ever have questions, ideas, or just want to check in, you can always reach me at [email protected].

Let’s make this a great year—together!

Warmly,
Mizzy (Margaret Roper)
