On Wednesday, March 2, 2022, the Texas School for the Deaf’s (TSD) sign choir performs at the Texas Independence Day celebration at the state capitol. Celebrate Texas! commemorates the history of the Lone Star State and Texas’ independence from Mexico in 1836. The capitol celebration includes performances by area school groups and organizations.

Austin, Texas – February 24, 2022 – Today at 3:00 p.m., the Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) officially opens its new toddler learning and administration welcome centers with an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony.

Due to inclement weather, the annual TSD Drive-Thru Pancake Breakfast was postponed to Saturday, February 26th, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.

TSD will be closed on Thursday and Friday, February 3rd and 4th due to the severe winter weather warnings.

Dear Parents and Caregivers, Our community level of COVID-19 transmission remains high at Stage 5.  Although we are resuming athletics and extracurricular activities we are doing so carefully with an increase in our health and safety protocols.

TSD students share big news of ASL performers at this Sunday's Super Bowl game: Sandra Mae Frank, Warren "Wawa" Snipe, and Sean Forbes.

Dear Families and Caregivers, It’s hard for all of us, parents, teachers, students, staff and administrators to watch the nightly news. We all expected to see increases in COVID after the holidays, but the quick spread of Omicron has surpassed our expectations. Everyone at TSD is working hard to keep our campus community safe. We have numerous testing teams that are screening both staff and students on a regular basis.

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Staff, The first order of the day is to welcome you all back and wish you all a Happy, Healthy and Safe New Year.  As we anticipated prior to the break, the surge of the omicron variant during the holiday break created a perfect storm for many of you, your families, our school operations and clearly our nation as a whole. It’s not how we hoped to start the new year, but as a team we can get through this!   At this time we have 16 staff with confirmed positive COVID and an additional 8 reporting exposure.  This is clearly going to impact all departments.  HR is tracking the dates of the confirmed positive staff to determine the length of quarantine.  Remember that the quarantine time has changed from 5 days for asymptomatic individuals and remains 10 days for those with symptoms.

Dear Staff and Families, As we conclude 2021, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to all of you for making TSD an amazing place for our students to learn, grow and belong. We are a community with many gifts and talents, which we
share daily with one another and most important, our students.

Santa arrives at Barton Creek Square mall ready to check wish lists from area children who are deaf or hard of hearing, starting at 3:00 p.m. today until 8:00 p.m. Santa Claus knows all languages, including sign language.

Today, Texas School for the Deaf’s safety partners receive a surprise visit from students on National First Responders Day. Recently crowned homecoming royalty at TSD, seniors Zorina Tomlinson and Zarek Nathanson, share the school’s appreciation with breakfast treats and posters made by TSD students.

Austin Texas - November 7, 2021 – Today, Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) welcomes representatives from the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf (CEASD).

We are collecting H-E-B and Wal-Mart gift cards for TSD families in need to help purchase food, holiday gifts, and other necessities for our students.
