Dear Parents, Guardians and Caregivers, It is truly an honor and a privilege that Superintendent Peter Bailey and I welcome you back as we usher in the 2023-2024 school year.    Our theme this year is Rise with Ranger Pride and we look forward to our strong partnership with families in providing the best possible education for your students as they Learn, Grow and Belong at TSD.

We will have a department’s open house, booths, and games. Please join us and complete registration and mingle with our TSD Community. This event is for students, families, and staff only.

Austin, Texas  June 2, 2023 —Today, the Statewide Outreach Center (SOC) welcomes over 300 guests to the Texas School for the Deaf for an enriching and inspiring weekend retreat centered on Texas families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Austin, Texas – June 1, 2023 – Forty-six graduates receive their high school graduation diplomas today at 2:00 p.m. at Texas School for the Deaf’s (TSD) R.L. Davis Auditorium, at 1102 South Congress Avenue, in Austin. The school welcomes nationally recognized social media influencer, Renca Dunn, to deliver the commencement address to TSD’s Class of 2023.

Austin, Texas – April 14, 2023 – The Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) Governing Board is pleased to announce the selection of Peter L. Bailey as the 28th superintendent of TSD.  Bailey will be succeeding Claire Bugen, who is retiring after 48 years at the School, the last 25 years as TSD Superintendent.

The next open house and community forum about the Austin Transit Partnership’s (ATP’s) light rail system proposals, Tuesday, April 11, 2-5 p.m, will be hosted at Texas School for the Deaf, at 1102 South Congress Avenue, in the school's Administrative Welcome Center - 2nd floor.

Today, Friday, March 17th the Governing Board interviewed Peter Bailey, Superintendent, from Pennsylvania School for the Deaf and Stella Egbert, Director of Instruction from Texas School for the Deaf for the next TSD Superintendent. We are pleased to announce the next phase of the search process by hosting several "meet-and-greet" opportunities for our students, staff, parents, and community on March 29th and 30th. Austin, Texas – February 24, 2023 – In celebrating Black History Month, the Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) is honoring the history of its Black Deaf Alumni whose roots trace back to the Texas Blind, Deaf, and Orphan School prior to desegregation. A group of these alums will visit the Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) today to share their stories and experiences dating back to the days of segregation.

Austin, Texas – February 17, 2023 – Today kicks off the Academic Bowl Central Regional competition for high school students who are deaf and hard of hearing, hosted by Gallaudet University (GU) at Texas School for the Deaf (TSD), in Austin.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, produced in partnership by ZACH Theatre and Deaf Austin Theatre, runs through March 5th. Grab your tickets before they go POOF!

Dear Staff, Parents and Caregivers, TSD will operate on a normal schedule tomorrow.  You will note that many Austin and surrounding school districts will remain closed.  This is primarily due to power outages, water problems and downed trees.  None of these exist on the TSD campus.

Dear Staff, Families and Caregivers, We will have a delayed opening tomorrow until 10:00 am.  We have 200 students on campus that really need us.  Staff covering shifts shifts since Monday evening are exhausted. The buses will run for day students 2 hours later than your regular pick up time.  There will be no school for half day toddlers in ELC. Be aware that some local school districts may be closed so some of you may not have bus service.

Dear Families, Caregivers and Staff, We just participated in a call with the National Weather Service and all city and county first responders. They have extended the Winter Storm Warning until Thursday morning.   We are expecting multiple rounds of freezing rain through Wednesday night.  Temperatures might not rise above freezing until mid morning on Thursday.  We will continue to monitor and keep you updated about Thursday.

Dear TSD Families and Caregivers, TSD will be closed on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 due to a Winter Storm Warning. We will not have after school activities today, Monday, January 30, 2023. We are closely monitoring local weather forecasts and are in contact with Austin ISD; an official decision regarding Wednesday is still to be determined.
