High School News

As part of our unified Secondary Program, students in grades 9–12 will follow a consistent grading calendar that includes two progress reports and one final report card each quarter. These checkpoints are designed to keep students, families, and teachers informed and aligned on academic progress throughout the year.

We encourage families to regularly check PowerSchool, review grading updates with their student, and reach out to teachers with any questions. Staying engaged with each grading period is a key part of supporting academic success!

As summer break approaches, students will be spending more time at home, making it crucial for caregivers to effectively communicate and keep their Deaf child included in social conversations.

As summer break approaches, it’s important for high school students to plan ahead to maintain their learning momentum. The “summer slide” is the tendency for students to lose some of the academic progress made during the school year.

The TSD Health Center will be closing for the summer on Thursday, May 29, at 6 PM. Please be aware that student medications cannot remain at TSD during the summer break.

The kitchen staff has created a survey to gather feedback from students regarding school meals. Principals are asked to have students complete the survey at any point next week before May 16th.

On the day of the Prom, we will have a special schedule. Students can check out after 1:10 pm on Thursday (Prom) or stay with their advisory teacher until 3:30 pm. Friday is a "Recharge Day," and students are still expected to attend school for attendance credit.

Hello students! As you all probably know, the Academic Intervention Program has set a flowchart that indicates if students are in the Red Zone, they cannot participate in any sport games or special social events.

The third and final Measure of Academic Progress of our students has arrived. Students will be taking the test this Tuesday (Reading) 4.29, Wednesday (Math) 4.30, and Thursday (Language Use) 5.1. Texas School for the Deaf athletes qualified for the TAPPS 4A South Regional Meet and made history by winning both girls’ and boys’ championships at the 15th Annual Berg & Seeger Classic.

We’ve got something super exciting to share. Nyle DiMarco is coming back to TSD! He’s been selected as the second recipient of the Claire Bugen Legacy Award of Merit, a huge honor given to people who’ve made a real impact in the Deaf and hard of hearing communities.
